2008 SafeWork Awards Black Tie Dinner - Winners Announced

WorkCover NSW’s SafeWork Awards were presented on Wednesday 29 October at a gala dinner at the Acer Arena Grand Ballroom, Sydney Olympic Park. 570 guests and delegates were proud to be part of an impressive and entertaining evening which saw 36 finalists honoured and recognised for their exceptional innovations and improvements in workplace safety, including industries such as construction, small business, electrical, mining, councils, transport and government.

Adam Spencer was Master of Ceremonies for the evening and captivated the crowd with his professionalism, humour and genuine enthusiasm for workplace safety.

A diverse range of entries were received this year, demonstrating the collective commitment to ensuring that our workplaces are among the safest in the world.

A record number of entries also suggests growing recognition of the importance of workplace safety and of the value of the awards. A total of 121 entries were received - the highest number received by WorkCover since the awards began in 2004.

As well as attracting record entries, the 2008 awards have seen the standard of entries rise to new levels of professionalism, with some initiatives achieving remarkable improvements in injury rates across a diverse range of workplaces.

Once the formal part of the evening and the sumptuous banquet concluded, guests danced into the night to the live band 'Jelly Bean Jam'.

All winning entries will automatically be entered into the Australian Safety and Compensation Council’s National Safe Work Australia Awards to be presented in Canberra in 2009.
