Year 2005 - Finalists

Finalists of the WorkCover NSW Safe Work Awards 2005 were announced in Sydney at an awards ceremony on Friday 28 October 2005 by NSW Minister for Commerce, John Della Bosca and WorkCover NSW Chief Executive Officer, Jon Blackwell.

The finalists were:

Category: Best Solution to an Identified Workplace Health and Safety Issue

  1. Allied Safety for Coversafe Manhole Barriers, which prevent the danger of unauthorized access to manholes.
  2. Australian Temporary Fencing for temporary fencing which can be used on construction sites
  3. E.F. Service Pty Ltd for a locking temporary safety fence for the construction industry
  4. Fallstop Pty Ltd for "Stair Mate" - a fall prevention system for the housing industry
  5. Investa Property Group for a "working at heights" solution for reducing injuries for framing carpenters; and
  6. TopGun Airtools for the world"s first portable powered sealant gun, which will help reduce injuries for workers.

Category: Best Solution to a Workplace Manual-Handling Hazard

  1. Central West Linen Services for a range of manual-handling initiatives.
  2. Marrickville Council for a street-scape trailer which reduces the risk of manual-handling injuries for council workers.
  3. Uniting Care - Nareen Gardens for a "sit safe table" which reduces risks of injury for carers when they have to move residents to and from the table in nursing homes and other residential care facilities.
  4. OK Steelex Pty Ltd for a steel reinforcement jig which significantly reduces manual-handling risks on construction sites.
  5. Quality Food Services for a meal packaging initiative which reduces manual-handling risks during meal service in hospitals.
  6. Railcorp for a Screw Spike Inserter, which reduces manual-handling risk factors when working on railway sleepers.
  7. Railcorp again, for a Train Stop Lifter which reduces manual-handling risks when replacing damaged train stops.
  8. United Goninan Rail MainTrain for a train door lifting attachment which reduces the risk of manual-handling injuries during train repairs.
  9. The Royal Hospital for Women for a "breast feeding chair" which helps carers with new mothers to establish breast-feeding their new-born babies.
