Judging process

The stages involved in the assessment and judging of entries in the 2010 SafeWork Awards are outlined below.

Stage 1: Initial review

All entries are reviewed by an internal panel of work health and safety experts from WorkCover NSW. The role of this panel is to identify those entries which are deemed worthy of a site visit.

It is likely that some entries may not survive this stage of the judging process.

Stage 2: Assessment

All entries that are deemed worthy of a site visit will be assessed by experienced WorkCover NSW inspectors, specialists or any authorised representative of WorkCover NSW. A report will be completed for each entry that addresses the criteria for the respective Awards category.

The role of the site visit is to confirm the information provided in the entry. During site visits, the assessors may need to speak to a number of different people. Based on the onsite assessment, they may also need to obtain additional information.

Stage 3: Judging

Following the site visits, those entries determined to be of sufficient quality are then judged by the 2010 WorkCover NSW Safe Work Awards Finalists Judging Panels.

The Finalists Judging Panels for the Awards will include senior representatives from WorkCover NSW, trade unions, employer groups and specialist work health and safety advisory bodies.

The Finalists Judging Panels will have absolute and unfettered discretion in assessing entries, applying the selection criteria, applying the conditions of entry and in determining the Awards. The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into. The Finalists Judging Panels may consult with WorkCover staff or other qualified persons in carrying out its functions.
